How to participate
in Iowa City's food drive
- Host a food drive at your place of employment, church,
or social organization
- Cash donations are appreciated and allow the Crisis
Center to buy bulk food at reduced cost
- Donate non-perishable canned or packaged food at your
local grocery stores during the food drive
- All non-perishable food donations may be dropped off
at the Hawkeye Foodservice semi-trailer located in Hy-Vee Food Store
parking lots on the last day of the drive
- If

City, 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA 52245; or by e-mail
Food and fund drive ideas
- Host a dance or concert with food items as admission
- Hold a "Strike Against Hunger" bowling tournament with canned
food as the entry fee
- Collect food and funds at sporting events
- Hold a neighborhood yard sale
- Host a house party with a food donation for the cover charge
- Hold a celebrity ball tournament
- Hold penny, nickel, or dime drive
- Plan a bake sale
- Hold a pledge drive for a walk, bicycle race, or other event
- Encourage your company to match employee donations
- Collect pop cans for the deposit
- Issue a food drive challenge to other departments, teams, stores,
etc.
- Design a paycheck stuffer at your workplace with food drive information
- Hold a silent auction with donated gifts, services, gift certificates,
etc.
About the Crisis Center food bank of Johnson County
- More than 4,000 households requested assistance from the food bank
during the past year
- Almost 50 percent of those receiving assistance are children under
18 years of age
- More than 25 percent of food bank clients are single women with young
children
- The food bank distributed food to more than 725 families per week
- 80 percent of the food distributed comes from donations
- Services are provided by 150 volunteers
